I've wanted to be a writer since I was a child and in freshman year, a friend recommended that I take the newspaper class at Huron High School. I was hesitant, as non-fictional, journalistic writing was something I'd never been exposed to. I assumed that I'd immediately hate it, simply because I'd always preferred fiction. But my outlook has completely changed.
The most important lessons of journalism are taught outside the classroom, reality promoting me how to navigate a fast-paced world with creativity, compassion, and accuracy. I've learned to be open-minded, to be outgoing and enthusiastic about everything, to embrace unfamiliarity and welcome uncertainty.
As a growing journalist, but also simply a member of society, I understand how I hold a responsibility to uncover and communicate what has the power we change the way we think and regard one another for the better – and the only way to accomplish this is through seeking the unknown. Words have power, and it is my forever goal to employ them in a way that reveals the knowledge, perspectives, and lessons that shape our world.
